30/07 to 1/08/2021- National orienteering event
In the selection of outdoor sports, orienteering is still an understated discipline. Its combination of hiking and a treasure hunt can be approached as a great family activity on the 12 permanent routes on offer in the area or as a competitive time trial, as part of the National Orienteering event proposed by the French Orienteering Federation (sprint, long and medium distance).
Its assets: it is an activity that everyone can try, perfect for getting off the beaten track at your own pace. It offers a fun, adventurous element that is sometimes missing from a classic hike, as well as an analysis to divert attention away from the effort. What could be better than getting lost whilst knowing exactly where you are?! All you need is a compass and map to find all the markers on the routes.
International Chess Festival – 2 – 8 August 2021
In a spectacle similar to the one we were able to enjoy on the screen in the TV series “The Queen’s Gambit”, three tournaments (including an elite category) are scheduled. For the uninitiated, the festival is an opportunity to discover the game of chess. On the programme: free chess lessons, giant games, free games and discovery activities for the general public.
Altitude concert by the Amadeus electric quartet – 4 August 2021
In the context of the Musi’Plagne cultural summer programme, the famous classical music women’s quartet will be giving free rein to their talent 2500 metres above sea level at the top of the Grande Rochette. The musical spectacle with the sounds of violin, cello and piano will echo the majestic decor of the Vanoise glaciers in the background.
Access on the Grande Rochette gondola from Plagne Centre or on foot on marked paths. Free
Minimalist trail running, 21 – 22 August
Directly inspired by the customs of the Tarahuma Indians in northern Mexico, the “Lightfoot” trail organised in Champagny-en-Vanoise is not run in trainers but in sandals called “Huaraches”. Not only is this activity perfectly suited to running in the mountains, but it also provides an incredible feeling of connection with the earth and Mother Nature
A choice of two itineraries, supervised by minimalist coaches:
–discovery trail (footpath and road in the forest) 5km / 400m elev. gain; any kind of shoes accepted.
–trail 12km / 1100m elev. gain with rankings; Huarache barefoot sandals only.
During the event, you can buy or make your own sandals for the race the next day (45€).
The “Tarahumara Spirit” association was created in Champagny-en-Vanoise in 2018 by Patrick Salmon. Its credo focuses on connecting people, especially runners, on the themes of “slow-running”, “slow-food” and the beneficial pleasure of sharing great experiences without harming others. The “Lightfoot Trail” has already been going for two years and, if many athletes find it intriguing, many of them “convert” after having testing Huaraches.
The association actively supports the Tarahumara Indians through donations that go in particular to financing their hospital for children and increasing their seed bank so that they can preserve their biodiversity and agriculture.
Football / rugby pitch
La Plagne welcomes sports clubs and has a range of infrastructures that allows it to offer a variety of activities for the organisation of sports preparation, oxygenation or cohesion courses. With a view to expanding its offer, La Plagne will be inaugurating a brand new 9,000m2 rugby and football pitch with natural turf in summer 2021, one of the few French pitches at an altitude of 2,050m.
The resort is also committing to the Terre de Jeux 2024 label, which highlights the efforts of communal and regional authorities, through the actors in the field of sports, to promote the practice of sport in a more developed and inclusive way.
